There are four top golf courses in Cyprus and all within 40 minutes of Windy Ridge, the nearest being Aphrodite Hills and Secret Valley a merely 10 minutes drive away.
There is another great course called Korineum Golf Club in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. To play here you will need take your passports and cross the border in Nicosia. In my opinion well worth the trip (approx 2 hours).
Aphrodite Hills Golf Club
With stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea and its exquisite setting amongst natural vegetation, Aphrodite Hills is paradise for the golfing enthusiast, be it advanced or intermediate player. Five years in the making, the course follows the contours of the two hills, its challenging fairways cutting a swathe through lakes, olive and carob trees. No wonder the course has taken its rightful place among the very best the Mediterranean can offer.
Regardless of how many times you play the course, there is always a new challenge. Not least the skill to conquer the dramatic holes that run alongside or traverse the central ravine. The 7th hole is the feature hole, teeing off across the ravine to a green nestled on the other side. The white-knuckle buggy ride down to the tee box from the 6th hole adds a bit of excitement.
Secret Valley Golf Club
As its name suggests, Secret Valley offers a slightly more secluded golfing experience in the valley below Aphrodite Hills . This course, also designed by Tony Jacklin, is known for its beautiful landscapes and gentler slopes. While still offering a fair challenge, it’s more forgiving than some of the championship layouts, making it ideal for golfers seeking a relaxed and enjoyable round. The well-maintained fairways and picturesque setting make it a pleasure to play.
Elea Golf Club
Designed by the legendary Sir Nick Faldo, Elea Golf Club is a masterclass in strategic design. Characterized by its rugged beauty, this course offers a blend of challenging holes and stunning scenery. The demanding layout requires thoughtful shot-making and careful club selection, rewarding players with a satisfying sense of accomplishment.
Minthis Hills Golf Club
Minthis Hills Golf Resort: Located in the beautiful hills of Pafos, Minthis Hills is a visually stunning course designed by Mackenzie & Ebert. Characterized by its beautiful natural surroundings, including ancient monasteries and olive trees, this course offers a strategic challenge while providing a fair amount of forgiveness, making it popular with a wide range of skill levels.
Golf in Northern Cyprus
There’s currently one golf course in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) located east of Kyrenia. The journey from Pissouri takes approximately 2 hours, however, this depends on the time it takes to present documents at the border. You will need to check with your car hire company whether you to take the car into the TRNC.
