Reknowned sites to visit nearby include Aphrodite's Rock, the Mosaics in Paphos (next to the harbour), Tombs of the Kings in Paphos, Kourion with its extensive ruins and amphitheatre. There is a guide book at the villa for your use during your stay.
Children might enjoy a trip to Limassol Castle where there is a ride that tells the history of Cyprus, not quite up to Disney standards, but one or two surprises!
On the northern side of Cyprus historic sites worth seeing are Salamis, Bellapais, St. Hilarion Castle (thought to be the inspiration for Disney's Sleeping Beauty Castle) and Kyrenia, also known as Girne.
A trip to Nicosia looking at both sides of Cyprus from the dividing line is a fascinating experience, but probably unadvisable in the high season as the temperature soars in the capital. Nicosia is approximately an hour and a half away from Pissouri. Don't forget passports if you wish to cross the border.
If you've had enough of the heat, you will find the mountains a cooling retreat. Temperatures here are often between 5 and 10 degrees lower than in Pissouri.
The Troodos massif stretches across the centre of Cyprus, reaching up to 1952 metres at Mount Olympos. A rugged but easily accessible region brimming with nature trails, 12th - 15th century fresco churches, wine-making villages and pine forests.
